Businessman and former honorary consul of the Russian Federation in the Principality, 77 years old had already been hospitalized in the ICU for a few days and intubated due to Covid although he had other pathologies.


The businessman and diplomat Pere Joan Tomàs, died this Monday at the age of 77, after being hospitalized for a few days in the ICU. Tomás has been a key man for the relations between Andorra and Russia.


Until a few months ago he was the honorary consul of the Russian Federation in the Principality. Despite having other pathologies, he has not been able to overcome Covid.


Tomás was honorary consul of the Russian Federation in Andorra and had been appointed in March 2006 ambassador of the Principality in Iceland, Sweden, Norway and Finland during the mandate of the head of Government Albert Pintat.

For years he was a non-resident ambassador of the Principality in various countries. Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and obviously Russia, where he did various businesses. It was precisely in 2010 when he left government diplomacy to strengthen, as honorary consul, relations between the Russian Federation and Andorra.


In fact, diplomatic sources consulted have recalled that his role has been key for the Principality to maintain excellent relations with Russia.


And also for the Russians the role of Tomás, who a few months ago transferred responsibility from him to Narcís Socías, was relevant. To the point that within the framework of the 25 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
